The Institute for Urban Research and Development (IURD) promotes community development by facilitating the self-empowerment of people and communities. The Institute advances social, cultural and economic solutions through community-based research, public policy advocacy, non-profit program development and direct community services.

Since its founding in 1996, IURD has helped to improve the quality of life for low-income, underserved and disenfranchised populations throughout Southern California, through programs addressing issues such as homelessness, economic development, program development and youth development.

In Glendale, IURD has been operating Project ACHIEVE, a homeless services center and emergency shelter, since December 1996. As a member of the Glendale Homeless Coalition, IURD actively works to form collaborative relationships with other homeless service providers, units of local government and the community.

IURD believes that an emergency shelter is a place where other community institutions -- businesses, churches, schools, social clubs, etc. -- can get involved as volunteers and engage homeless residents in positive activities. To contribute volunteer services or tax-deductible donations, contact IURD at 818-549-2225.

“Community-based solutions that work!”
