Background
Special Olympics International provides year-round sports training and competiion for over 1,000,000 children and adults with mental retardation or closely related developmental disabilities. These athletes, who may or may not have a physical disability, represent programs from over 140 countries from all major continents. Special Olympics is sports, competitions, and socialization; meaning the benefits include not only fitness, corrdination, and cardiovasuclar improvements, but also confidence, discipline, self-esteem, and fun.
Pasadena Area Special Olympics includes over 100 athletes from the
cities of Altadena, Arcadia, Duarte, La
Caņada Flintridge, Monrovia, Sierra Madre, and of course, Pasadena.
Pasadena Area Special Olympics currently offers training and competition in Aquatics, Athletics (Track and Field), Basketball, Bowling, Floor Hockey, and Power Lifting.
