Background
Established nearly 20 years ago, this large local area serves nearly a thousand
athletes throughout the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, Glendale,
and Burbank. Tri-Valley
Special Olympics is experiencing an exciting period of growth and change.
It has been esimated that we are only reaching 15% of the individuals eligible
for participation in the Special Olympics.
Outreach
A strong Outreach Program is currently being established to reach prospective athletes through schools, work programs, city programs and by establishing bilingual communications for the Spanish speaking population. This Outreach Program is one of the primary areas for which Tri-Valley Special Olumpics is currently seeking volunteers to help them attain their goals.

Sports
Tri-Valley Special Olympics currently offers the following individual and team sports: Basketball, Equestrian, Softball, Aquatics, Bowling, Gymnastics, Roller Skating, and Athletics (Track and Field). Plans are underway to add Golf, Soccer, Powerlifting, Figure Skating, Tennis, and Unified Softball.
Competition
Athletes compete at local, Area, Regional, and Chapter levels on a year-round basis. Each sport culminates with a Chapter competition. In the Olympics tradition, each competition begins with the pagentry of Opening Ceremonies. (Read more about competition)
Volunteers
Tri-Valley Special Olympics relies on the assistance and support of hundreds of volunteers to conduct its program. Volunteers may contribute a few hours once a year or commit to coaching a sport once a week for a training season. (Read more about volunteer opportunities)
