Founded in 1976 by Martine Colette, the Wildlife Waystation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, relocation or permanent refuge for wild and exotic animals. The Waystation provides a variety of specialized services to displaced, abandoned, abused and surplus animals from diverse backgrounds; standing firmly behind its decree: that "no wild or exotic animal in need shall be turned away".
The Waystation provides a seven day-a-week, 24 hour-a-day animal care and rescue center, and processes approximately 60,000 calls annually at no charge to the public. During its compelling 20-year history, this facility has given over 55,000 animals not just a chance of survival, but an opportunity to enjoy a quality of life.
Over 4,000 animals pass through their doors each year, with more than 1,000 animals in residence at any given time. In addition to exceptional medical care provided by in-house veterinarians, each animal who enters the facility is provided an appropriate enclosure, food, and specialized convalescent care.

Upon full recovery, local animals deemed ready to make a successful transition back to the wild are returned to their habitat, and set free. Non-native, wild or exotic animals which depend on the Waystation for survival enjoy a permanent home when necessary. In such cases, carefully designed animal enrichment programs are provided to further promote a quality existence. The Wildlife Waystation is noted for its effective wildlife education programs.
The Waystation's unique slate of services is funded solely through corporate and foundation grants, private donations, bequests, animal sponsorship programs, memberships and bi-monthly prospective member tours.
In essence, the Waystation was created in response to the lack of existing facilities designed to help provide refuge to wild and exotic animals, and to educate the public.
