Friends Outside in Los Angeles County is a bridge between families, children, and prisoners affected by the unintentional consequences of incarceration and the support and services necessary to address their immediate and long-term needs. If Friends Outside cannot provide the appropriate support or services, we assist our clients in accessing them through other community resources. Our History Friends Outside in Los Angeles County (FOLAC) was established in 1972 at the suggestion of the late Federal Judge William P. Gray, and Martha Jane Dowds. Staff and volunteers have been recognized for outstanding contributions to the community by, among others, the Los Angeles City Council, the Director of the California Department of Corrections, the Los Angeles County Commission for Women and the City of Pasadena.	FOLAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The agency receives community support from numerous religious organizations and schools, service groups, local businesses, and caring individuals. In addition, FOLAC has received government support from all Los Angeles County supervisorial districts, the state of California, and the cities of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Foundation and other funding has included, among others, the California Community Foundation, the Junior League of Pasadena, the Los Angeles Women's Foundation, the Pasadena Foundation, and the S. Mark Taper Foundation. Volunteer Opportunities Friends Outside in Los Angeles County offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals wishing to make a difference in their communities, including jail visitation, benefit committee, office assistance, speakers bureau, and special events.
