Southern California's first museum was founded by the Southwest Society of the Archeological Institute of America in 1907, and formally opened in Highland Park on August 1, 1914. It contains some of the finest examples of American Indian art and artifacts in the United States, ranging from prehistoric pottery to contemporary works.
The collections of the Southwest Museum represent Native American cultures from Alaska to South America.
An excellent research library is open to visitors.
